THE NATURE OF SANTA FE

Located 7,000 feet above sea level in the valley between the Sangre de Cristo and Jemez mountains, Santa Fe is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts. Endless hiking trails traverse the region’s wilderness areas and wind through destinations such as Bandelier National Monument and Chaco Canyon. The Pecos Wilderness area—part of the Santa Fe National Forest—and other surrounding areas are home to world-class rock climbing, camping, white-water rafting and fly fishing for rainbow, brown and cutthroat trout. A scenic drive northwest from town to Tierra Amarilla cuts through Abiquiu, where artist Georgia O’Keeffe made her home among the sandstone cliffs and juniper trees. For alpine adventurers, Santa Fe and nearby Taos offer excellent opportunities for skiing, snowboarding and other winter pursuits.
